Pages within Enterprise Portal do not sufficiently
encode output parameters, resulting in a reflected cross-site scripting issue. A reflected cross-site scripting attack can be used to non-permanently deface or modify displayed content from a Web site.
Reflected cross-site scripting can be used to steal another user#s authentication information,such as data relating to their current session. A malicious user who gains access to this data
may use it to impersonate the user and access all information with the same rights as the target user. If an administrator is impersonated, the security of the application may be fully compromised.
The deprecation of Portal XSS Encoding library, com.sapportals.portal.prt.util.StringUtils and adaption to the new functions were implemented to provide better protection in mixed contexts above all.

com.sapportals.portal.prt.util.StringUtils is now Deprecated.
If you have used the portal StringUtils library you have 2 options:
1. Change your implementations to use the new XSS encoding library (as described in note 866020) - the recommended solution.
2. Set the portal xss switch on, then all calls to StringUtils API will be delegated to the new XSSEncoder library.
Setting the switch can be done by adding a System parameter to the JVM using the Config Tool.
To activate the switch, set on the JVM the parameter 'com.sap.portal.security.xssencode' with value '1'
* If you do not perform either of the two options you continue using the deprecated StringUtils which potentially does not provide complete cross site scripting protection.
